There is a presence, a silence, a stillness, which is hereby itself. There is no doer of it, no creator of this stillness. It is simply here in you, with you. It is the fragrance of your own self. There is nothing to do about this, it is naturally present. The fragrance of peace, this spaciousness, is the fragrance of your own being
As we grow we learn that stillness is key.
There is a point at the top of our inhale and the bottom of our exhale, where stillness is present on every single breath. Sometimes hard to grasp for the mind, but we know it's there.
Or at least, we have faith, a wish, a yearning, that it's there.
As a younger version of myself, I was busy making plans, booking out my weekends months in advance, filling each day to its maximum capacity. But as the years add on, I find myself excited when plans get cancelled, just so I can be alone and sit in the stillness. I look forward to my time off now, not to socialize but to be, just be, be whatever I need for that day, almost paused in time.
After our busy lives take their toll on our mind, we realize, that this point of stillness is out of grasp, and only when we have a break from our reality, can we fully understand, the stillness we have been craving.
How to find this, through our forest of thoughts, growing at high speed, entrenched deep in the soil of our mind’s eye, as we get dragged through the dirt of our past, and sit in the anxiety-driven hopes of our future?
It’s ever so simple - the breath. Focus on your breath. Bring all your awareness back to the breath, and you will see maybe not instantaneously, but you will see, it’s there. The stillness. Hidden deep under the forest floor, among the spikiness of the twigs, where the moss lies it’s weary green head, just below where the fog settles for the night, and far beneath where the sunshine will ever glow.
It’s there. In the depth of this darkness, is where you will find what you’re looking for.
If you need to take a break from reality, take one. Otherwise go towards the stillness, hidden in your breath. It’s there you will find, the pause. At the top, of the inhale, and the bottom of the exhale. Sometimes we just need a little reminder. Sometimes we need a push. And sometimes we just need to stop, pause and breathe.
