Trauma Sensitive Therapy

Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is based on the physical forms and movements of hatha yoga. Aspects of the traditional hatha yoga are modified to build a trauma survivor’s experience of empowerment to cultivate a more positive relationship to one’s body.

TCTSY sessions are different to public yoga classes, participants are offered a series of choice making where they get the opportunity to decide what feels right, allowing a sense of control of their own body based on a felt sense. Participants will not receive “hands on adjustments” to influence the physical form. Although trauma yoga has physical forms and movements, the emphasis is based on the internal experience rather than the external forms, therefore there is no emphasis of “getting things right”. By shifting the participant’s external experience to internal, we compliment the treatment of complex trauma. In this approach, the power of choice making and experience is up to the individual participant, not the facilitator. TCTSY allows participants the space to restore their connection of mind into body and cultivate the sense of agency that is often compromised as a result of trauma.

Tara has completed studies in Trauma Sensitive Yoga and is an accredited TCTSY-F through the Trauma Centre in Brookline, Massachusetts. TCTSY is a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) approved, evidence based protocol by leading researchers in the field of trauma and psychology. Tara is one of only 100 people worldwide to be a certified TCTSY-F, TCTSY is based on clinical trials performed at the Trauma Centre at JRI in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Tara has worked within a diverse range of cultures, and has experience working with people with mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, personality and mood disorders. Tara has extensive experience in working with women and adolescents with a focus on complex trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and dissociation.

Tara provides a safe space with a holistic approach to small groups and individuals, through trauma sensitive yoga sessions.
